IIT-Bombay and IISc present differing views on Hebbal flyover and tunnel project

IIT-Bombay and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have recorded differing opinions regarding the proposed Hebbal tunnel road and flyover construction project in Bengaluru. According to the study by Archak Mittal, commissioned for 'Ritvik Projects Private Limited,' the IIT study suggests that if half of the vehicles traverse the tunnel-flyover, the average speed in 2027 could rise from the current 13.74 km/h to 20.64 km/h. IISc, which reviewed the study report, criticized it, stating that the study is 'biased and lacks supporting evidence.' IISc's Sustainable Transport Laboratory noted that the study fails to properly detail how vehicle data for the tunnel and flyover are determined, suggesting that the study only considers the existing road network and the tunnel-flyover joint route.
