Excise Guard and Daughter Sentenced to Jail for Illegal Assets

The Economic Offences Special Court sentenced retired Excise Guard M. Ramachandrappa and his daughter R. Urayaka for illegal assets. They were given jail terms of five and three years, respectively, along with fines of ₹5 lakh and ₹3 lakh. The ED stated that M. Ramachandrappa had obtained liquor sales licenses in his daughter's name while in service, and was depositing bribes collected from liquor shops into the daughter's account. The ED reported that M. Ramachandrappa had deposited ₹83.9 lakh in the daughter's account between 2001 and 2008. The investigation found that he possessed illegal assets of ₹42.48 lakh, which he could not explain.
