Tumour gene tests help guide cancer treatment: Study

A Bengaluru-based study involving 1,000 patients with solid tumours found that genomic profiling led to treatment changes in 43 per cent of patients. The study highlighted the growing role of precision oncology in tailoring cancer treatment to individual patients. Experts noted that testing can be particularly useful in lung, breast, colorectal, ovarian, and prostate cancers. Furthermore, falling costs and advances in sequencing technology are improving access to genetic testing.
