State Drug Control Department requests central government to control medicine prices

The State Drug Control Department, having identified that some companies are setting MRPs many times higher than the actual drug supply cost, has requested the central government to regulate drug prices. The department has prepared a list of 254 companies that set high MRPs, noting a gap of up to 52 times between the supply cost and the MRP. The department's Commissioner, K. Srinivas, wrote a letter to the Chairman of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on the 24th, urging urgent action under the Drugs (Price Control) Order, 2013.
