NIMHANS to use AI for early detection of depression

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) plans to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to detect depression in its early stages. NIMHANS partnered with the Local Friends Gopinaath Bordoloy Regional Mental Health Institute (LGBRIMH) at IIT Kharagpur and Tejpur. NIMHANS officials stated that the project, funded by the International Endowment Foundation Welcome Trust, will conduct a two-year study. The study will involve conducting and analyzing 4,500 clinical interviews in regional languages and English.
