A new study by Bengaluru doctors found that a new technology scan is more effective than traditional CT scans in accurately detecting the spread of ovarian cancer to other parts of the body, especially the inner lining of the abdomen. The research, conducted on 200 women at Aster International Institute of Oncology in Bengaluru, reported in the prestigious 'Journal of Nuclear Medicine,' found that PET/CT scans using 'Fibroblast Activation Protein Inhibitor' (FAPI) or FAPI tracer can clearly detect the spread of the disease. The study noted that this new scan has an 86% accuracy rate in detecting the spread of cancer cells to the inner lining of the abdomen in ovarian cancer cases.
