High Court clarifies that compassionate appointments are temporary relief, not a permanent right

The High Court clarified that a job based on compassion is a one-time relief for immediate financial difficulty, not a permanent right. The Divisional Bench of the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT-Belagavi) had previously ordered considering two employees for First Division Assistant posts, citing their higher educational qualifications. The Divisional Bench, led by Justice M. Nagaprashanna, subsequently cancelled this order, stating that educational qualifications grant eligibility, but not the right to secure a post under the compassionate scheme. The court warned that such appointments must operate within the limits of law, otherwise, generosity could lead to administrative chaos.
