Bengaluru's democratic vacuum continues, with elections directed for December 2026

Bengaluru has been without elected corporators for six years, since the last BBMP council completed its term on September 10, 2020. The Supreme Court directed that elections to all five corporations be held in December 2026. The court had previously set deadlines for these elections, initially by June 30, and later extended it to August 31.
