34.76 lakh households potentially lose free electricity benefit due to data verification issues

According to meter readers, 34.76 lakh households may lose the free electricity benefit under the Gruha Jyothi scheme. This is due to issues like vacant homes or non-cooperation from the heads of households in BESCOM's area. Meter readers reported that while 1,65,32,652 families currently benefit, many are suspected of using more electricity than allocated. The government had initiated verification of beneficiaries' records from July, with the deadline set for September 30.
